Many type 1 diabetics shy away from maintaining an intense exercise regiment out of fear that their blood sugar levels will fluctuate and cause medical complications.
Not Steve Chop.
Chop, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1995, crossed the finish line at the Ford Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon last month after swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and running 26.2 miles. (See full story)

Laura Petersen 08.OCT.08 With their bodies either bruised or aching, team members of the Baltimore Renegades listened as their coach John Shaddock spoke at the team’s first meeting, held last Wednesday, since they fought on Sept. 26.
“Tonight, we go 50 percent,” Shaddock said firmly. “Nice and easy.”
The Eldersburg-based mixed martial arts team, all students of the Gaijin Ryu Dojo in Eldersburg, had its second fight in Winchester, Va. as part of the International Battle League. (See full story)
Officials weigh in on slots amendment Mary Scott 08.OCT.08 When Maryland voters head to the polls on Nov. 4, they’ll be casting their vote on one of the issues that has been at the forefront of this election — slot machines.
The question of whether slot machines should be legalized in the state of Maryland is being brought to voters in the form of a constitutional amendment that people can vote for or against.
The amendment would authorize the state to issue up to five video lottery licenses. The question that will appear on the ballot states that the slots would primarily raise revenue for education in public schools from prekindergarten through grade 12 and public school construction and improvements, as well as construction of capital projects at community colleges and higher education institutions.
